Shaira Jane Acosta successfully defends her PhD thesis
We are delighted to announce that Shaira Jane Acosta, researcher at the Interfibio Research Group, successfully defended her PhD thesis on October 1, 2026, at the ETSEQ - Universitat Rovira i Virgili.
Her thesis, entitled "Directed In Vitro Evolution and Selection Strategies for Aptamers Targeting Mycobacterium tuberculosis Secreted Proteins", was carried out within the Doctoral Program in Nanoscience, Materials and Chemical Engineering under the supervision of Prof. Ciara O'Sullivan and Dr. Vasoula Skouridou.
Shaira's research focused on the development and optimization of aptamer selection strategies targeting proteins secreted by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, contributing to the advancement of molecular recognition tools with potential applications in tuberculosis diagnostics.
The successful defense marks the culmination of several years of research, dedication and hard work, and represents an important milestone in Shaira's scientific career.
