Afraa Razouk Presents Innovative Cardiovascular Diagnostic Research at Falling Walls Lab
On June 18, our PhD student Afraa Razouk participated in the prestigious Falling Walls Lab Barcelona, an international forum that brings together outstanding young researchers, innovators, and entrepreneurs to present breakthrough ideas capable of creating a positive impact on science and society.
In a highly competitive three-minute pitch format, Afraa presented her research entitled "Breaking the Wall of Early Cardiovascular Risk Detection", focused on the development of a portable point-of-care electrochemical platform for the early detection of multiple genetic variations (single nucleotide polymorphisms, SNPs) associated with cardiovascular disease.
The proposed technology aims to enable rapid, accessible, and multiplex genetic screening within a single device, facilitating earlier cardiovascular risk assessment and supporting more personalized healthcare strategies. By bringing advanced genetic testing closer to patients, this approach has the potential to improve prevention and clinical decision-making while reducing barriers to access.
Participating in Falling Walls Lab provided an excellent opportunity to share research outcomes with a multidisciplinary audience and engage in discussions with fellow scientists, innovators, and industry representatives. The event fostered the exchange of ideas, valuable feedback, and new perspectives on translating scientific discoveries into real-world solutions.
We congratulate Afraa on representing the Interfibio Research Group and showcasing her innovative work on cardiovascular diagnostics at such an inspiring international platform. Her participation highlights our group's commitment to developing impactful point-of-care technologies that address important healthcare challenges.
