ELEVATE Project Brochure: A Breakthrough in Cervical Cancer Prevention

We are proud to present the final brochure of the ELEVATE Project (EarLy dEtection of cerVical cAncer in hard-to-reach populations through portable and point-of-care HPV TEsting)-a Horizon 2020 initiative that sets a new standard in cervical cancer screening.

A Global Challenge, A Targeted Solution

Cervical cancer remains a major health threat, especially for women in remote, underserved, or marginalized communities. ELEVATE responded by developing a portable, user-friendly, and cost-effective HPV test designed for point-of-care use, making screening accessible to all-no matter where they live.

What's Inside the Brochure?

The brochure highlights ELEVATE's major achievements across three pillars:

  1. Public Health Impact

    • In-depth research in Belgium, Portugal, Ecuador, and Brazil revealed the social, cultural, and economic barriers that prevent women from accessing screening.

    • Community-based educational interventions significantly increased awareness and acceptance of cervical cancer screening, especially self-sampling options.

  2. Innovative Test Development

  • A new HPV test was developed using advanced genomics to detect 14 high-risk HPV types with improved sensitivity and specificity.

  • Unlike standard tests, ELEVATE's solution accounts for global HPV genetic variation and delivers more reliable results.

  • The project engineered a microfluidic, portable diagnostic tool enabling on-site testing with minimal training.

  • The device is field-ready, rugged, and tailored for use in low-resource settings, bringing science directly to the communities that need it most.

  • A fully integrate devise

Measurable Results
  • Over 90% of women accepted self-sampling after community education.

  • The test proved more accurate than many existing commercial options.

  • Economic modeling demonstrated that scaling this approach can save lives and reduce healthcare costs, especially in low-coverage regions.

Why It Matters

ELEVATE is more than a scientific innovation-it's a public health milestone. This project shows how collaboration, education, and technology can come together to prevent disease and promote equity in healthcare.
