Interfibio researchers participate in ICS-22 in India, with Dr. Gianfranco Terrones receiving First Prize for Poster Presentation

Prof. Alex Fragoso and Dr. Gianfranco Terrones Morey, researchers from the Interfibio Research Group at Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV), participated in the 22nd International Cyclodextrin Symposium (ICS-22), held from October 23 to 25, 2026, at ISF College of Pharmacy in Moga, Punjab, India.

The International Cyclodextrin Symposium is a global scientific meeting that brings together leading experts in cyclodextrin research to share cutting-edge developments, exchange knowledge and explore future applications of these versatile molecules in fields such as analytical chemistry, biotechnology and environmental monitoring.

During the symposium, both Interfibio researchers presented their latest research on the use of cyclodextrins in innovative analytical platforms.

First Prize for Gianfranco Terrones' poster presentation

One of the highlights of Interfibio's participation was the recognition awarded to Dr. Gianfranco Terrones Morey, who received the First Prize for Poster Presentation for his work entitled "Exploring the Synergistic Application of Plasmonic Nanoparticles and Cyclodextrins in SERS."

His research focuses on developing innovative Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) sensing platforms that combine plasmonic nanoparticles and cyclodextrins to improve the detection of herbicides. This approach explores the potential of these materials to enhance analytical performance and contribute to more effective environmental monitoring tools.

Alex Fragoso presents research on marine toxin detection

Prof. Alex Fragoso contributed to the scientific programme with an oral presentation entitled "Cyclodextrin-based materials for the capture and quantification of marine toxins."

His presentation explored the potential of cyclodextrin-based materials for capturing and quantifying marine toxins, contributing to the development of analytical strategies with applications in food safety and environmental monitoring.

Participation in ICS-22 provided an excellent opportunity for Interfibio researchers to exchange ideas with international experts, discuss emerging developments and explore potential scientific collaborations.
